“Strengthen the capacities of Presidents of Special Delegations (PDS) and financial STDs on the development of local planning documents, budget and annual investment plan sensitive to EMAPE, human rights and monitoring of their execution.”<\/em> such is the main objective of the training that brought together from April 15 to 19, 2024 in Ziniar\u00e9, actors from local authorities of the Central Plateau (Absouya, M\u00e9guet, Mogt\u00e9do and Zam) and Centre-West (R\u00e9o) regions.<\/p>\n\n

This training is in line with Effect 02 of the project to promote Responsible Gold Mining (Projet OR), which reads as follows: ” Local authorities participate in the management of artisanal mining according to their communal charters, and improve trust between the various stakeholders in the sector”.<\/em> The interest in this subject is justified by the fact that, in addition to the enormous challenges linked to environmental degradation, health problems, the proliferation of prohibited toxic substances and abuses of all kinds, the Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining (ASM) sub-sector is not sufficiently taken into account in local development policies. This is due to the fact that local authorities are not sufficiently aware of the importance of responsible MAPE in local policies. <\/p>\n\n

Group work on the role of MAPE in local development<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n

The training, which covered various modules (Introduction to MAPE, taking MAPE into account when drawing up the communal development plan, taking MAPE into account when drawing up the annual investment plan and budget, and MAPE-sensitive budget execution and monitoring), will ultimately help to change this situation, with a view to greater involvement of local government players in supporting MAPE players in their drive for sustainable development. ” As the mining sector is booming in Burkina Faso, better organization of MAPE could be an important lever for local development and facilitate the construction of basic socio-economic infrastructures (schools, health centers, boreholes, etc.)”,<\/em> confides Mme OUALI\/BOAMA Solange, president of the special delegation of the Absouya commune.<\/p>\n\n

As a reminder, the OR Project is financed by the Swiss Cooperation (SDC) and implemented by the Consortium Caritas Suisse, Artisanal Gold Council and Solidar Suisse. The overall objective of the Project is: Responsible gold mining is established at artisanal mining sites in Burkina Faso, and actors in the artisanal gold production chain benefit from better services and working conditions, contribute to local development and reduce the negative impacts of the sector<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n
