On July 10, 2025, in the village of Pissiga (commune of Ziga), the official launch took place of the reforestation of groves created by the “Promotion des pratiques agroécologiques et de valorisation des productions agricoles (Rilgré)” project in the Kuilsé (Centre-Nord), Oubri (Plateau-Central) and Nakambé (Centre-Est) regions. The establishment of these community groves complements Assisted Natural Regeneration (ANR), which the project systematically promotes as part of its actions to prevent soil degradation and restore degraded land. On this occasion, 750 seedlings of various species were planted in the two (02) hectare Pissiga grove. In the opinion of Lieutenant-Colonel Toussaint BATIONO, representing the Regional Director of Water and Forestry for the Kuilsé region, “this operation responds to the appeal of the President of Faso, His Excellency Captain Ibrahim TRAORÉ, who invites every Burkinabè, every institution and every community to plant and maintain seedlings for the regreening of Burkina Faso.”

Addressing the strongly mobilized population, Adama SAWADOGO, first vice-president of the special delegation of the Ziga commune, called for individual and collective commitment to better maintain this jewel. To facilitate the upkeep of the plants, he invited the community to support this initiative by advocating the installation of a water point on the site.

According to Philippe YANOGO, head of the Rilgré project, this activity marks the start of a series of reforestations in two (02) other groves (each covering two (02) hectares) located in the Oubri and Nakambé regions. A total of 3,000 seedlings of local species will be planted to help restore degraded land.

The Rilgré project is being implemented by the Solidar Suisse consortium and the Association Beo-Neeré Agroécologie (ABNA) in partnership with the Wendkouni/Namentaga Association. It covers 13 communes in the Kuilsé (Centre-Nord), Oubri (Plateau-Central) and Nakambé (Centre-Est) regions. The project is financed by the Kingdom of Belgium as part of the implementation of the Portefeuille Thématique Climat Sahel (PTCS)-volet Burkina Faso of the Belgian Development Agency (Enabel Burkina Faso).
