About the theme
Since January 2016, Burkina Faso has faced a recurrence of attacks by non-state armed groups in several regions of the country.
This situation is causing massive displacement of populations to other localities considered peaceful. According to figures from the Conseil National de Secours d’Urgence et de RĂ©habilitation (CONASUR), there are currently over 2 million internally displaced persons (IDPs), whose needs include:
- education of internally displaced students ;
- access to land and production equipment;
- the need for quick-win activities;
- access to grazing areas for those who have moved with their animals;
- access to improved seeds to boost production;
restocking livestock to revive family breeding, etc.
To help strengthen the resilience of IDPs, Solidar Suisse implements various projects focusing on :
- the provision of emergency food aid to IDPs, promoting their access to income and livelihoods through market gardening and livestock production;
- improving learning conditions for pupils, both hosts and internally displaced persons, in partnership with schools run by the SecrĂ©tariat national de l’Ă©ducation catholique (SNEC) and ;
- concertation at local level to promote social cohesion between the host population and IDPs for the peaceful management of shared natural resources.
