Following the appeal launched by health authorities in the fight against coronavirus disease, the NGO Solidar Suisse held a ceremony this July 28, 2020 at the governorate of the Central Plateau region, to hand over awareness and protection materials to vulnerable populations. The donation, worth 54,550,548 FCFA, is part of the “Support for population resilience in the face of Covid 19 in Burkina Faso” project, which aims, among other things, to address problems of accessibility to protective materials for vulnerable populations.

The number of Covid-19 cases in Burkina Faso is on the decline. However, concern is growing following the reopening of borders scheduled for August 1. Following this reopening, major challenges lie ahead. This is why health authorities are calling on the population to be more vigilant and to maintain barrier measures to restrict the spread of the pandemic and avoid a resurgence of the disease. With this in mind, Solidar Suisse and its partners have been quick to adopt new strategies to help meet the major challenges of the moment, aiming not only to continue some of their activities in the field, but also to combat the pandemic. Hence the “Support for population resilience in the face of Covid 19 in Burkina Faso” project. This project is being implemented in six (6) regions of Burkina Faso: the Central Plateau, the Centre-North, the Centre-East, the Hauts-Bassins, the North and the Sahel. The aim of the project is to improve the resilience of particularly vulnerable populations in rural and peri-urban areas to corona virus disease. As it did in the Hauts-Bassins region, Solidar Suisse has made available to the region
from the central plateau of awareness-raising and protection materials for pupils in bilingual schools, pupils in centers for adolescents, the elderly, users of places of worship, users of markets, community-based organizations, …. The donation consists of hand-wash stations, protective masks, soaps, awareness-raising materials in the national Mooré language, including picture boxes, banners, posters, etc. Séverin SOME, Secretary General of the Plateau Central region, representing the Governor of the Plateau Central region, praised Solidar Suisse’s initiative and invited the beneficiaries of the donation to make good use of the awareness and protection materials received. Sibiri Valentin ILBOUDO, Deputy Coordinator of Solidar Suisse, recalled that the donation was in response to the Burkinabe government’s appeal to combat Covid-19. For him, this donation will help to counter the resurgence of the disease, especially with the reopening of the country’s borders. The recipients were not left speechless. They expressed their joy by warmly thanking Solidar Suisse and its partners for the donation and the various activities carried out in the region.

According to trainer Pascal ZAONGO, the participants will act as relays to raise awareness, inform and help people understand the need to observe barrier gestures. Pascal ZAONGO is satisfied with the presentation made by some of the participants on the use of the image box, and knows he can count on them to raise awareness in the communities.
