“Promote a good understanding and appropriation of MAPE’s inclusive and sustainable local governance mechanisms and tools by key local government (LG) players, with a view to facilitating/boosting its inclusion in local development policies.” This was the aim of the training session held on June 06 and 07, 2024 in Ziniaré, which brought together players from local authorities in the Central Plateau (Absouya, Méguet, Mogtédo and Zam) and Centre-Ouest (Réo) regions.
Over the course of the 02 days, participants learned more about the legal and regulatory framework for local governance in the MAPE sector; the specific features of the sector; the players and their roles; the mechanisms and tools for local administrative governance in MAPE; the mechanisms and tools for local technical and environmental governance in MAPE; the mechanisms and tools for local economic governance in MAPE; the mechanisms and tools for local governance of information and communication in the MAPE sector.
According to Mme Céline Ivette BAZEMO, Prefect of the Meguet Department and President of the Special Delegation of the Meguet commune: “This training is most welcome, as we have been able to identify the various aspects of MAPE’s activity, the players and their aspirations. When you don’t know an activity, it’s very difficult to supervise it, to take action to improve it. This training is an opportunity for us to strengthen our knowledge and be more effective in the local governance of MAPE in favor of local development”.
As a reminder, this training is part of Effect 02 of the project to promote Responsible Gold Mining (Projet OR): ” Local authorities participate in the management of artisanal mining according to their communal charters and improve trust between the various stakeholders in the sector”, supported by Solidar Suisse.
The OR Project is financed by the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC) and implemented by the Consortium Caritas Suisse, Artisanal Gold Council and Solidar Suisse. The overall objective of the Project is: Responsible gold mining is established at artisanal mining sites in Burkina Faso, and actors in the artisanal gold production chain benefit from better services and working conditions, contribute to local development and reduce the negative impacts of the sector.
