On January 25, 2023, a Solidar Suisse team led by Country Representative Mr. Dieudonné R. ZAONGO, visited the infrastructure built as part of the “Resilience and social cohesion in the communes of Kaya and Nagréongo in Burkina Faso (PRECOS)” project. Among the infrastructures built were 2 market gardening perimeters covering a total area of around 5 hectares, operated by 167 market gardeners, including 52 internally displaced persons (IDPs), an onion storage warehouse with a capacity of 20 tonnes, and a borehole (newly constructed). To ensure optimum participation of women in market-garden production activities, the MaBYZ approach, a local day-care center, has been set up near the market-garden perimeter to look after children during working hours.
At the end of the visit, the Country Representative said he was very satisfied with the level of completion of the activities. He also praised the spirit of solidarity and hospitality of the local people, which had enabled the integration of the IDPs into the market garden production activities. As for the beneficiaries, they reiterated their thanks to Solidar Suisse and its local partner, the Manegdbzanga Association, for choosing their locality to implement the project.
As a reminder, through this project, Solidar Suisse intends to improve the resilience of vulnerable people in the commune of Nagréongo, including IDPs, through the implementation of a package of activities under the triple nexus of humanitarian, development and peace. These include market-garden production, breeding and fattening sheep, and capacity-building for local authorities and community leaders in conflict prevention and management.
