“Supporting and facilitating access for 2,000 young people and 2,000 women to short-term vocational training in the agro-silvopastoral sector” is one of the objectives of the RESICOM project. To achieve this, the project has begun a process of building the capacities of young people and women in the Boucle du Mouhoun and Nord regions in small ruminant sheep fattening techniques, seedling production, market garden production and small equipment support. More than 1,600 young people and women identified by the project in these three areas (including 800 in market gardening) in the project’s 02 regions have already been trained and provided with kits.

Practical training session on the production of Bokashi organic fertilizer

Ultimately, the project aims to train 2,400 farmers(80% women) in market gardening on 20 sites. To promote sustainable production, beneficiaries are trained in the production of biofertilizers (bokashi and liquid fertilizers) and biopesticides. 60 ha of community market gardening perimeters will be developed around perennial water points or with boreholes equipped with solar drainage systems.

Development work mobilizes both the men and women who benefit from it: here, the construction of the basin for the Rambo market garden.

To date, 15 market garden areas (06 in the North and 09 in the Boucle du Mouhoun) have been developed for these beneficiaries. Each perimeter covers an area of 3 ha, with a total of 120 beneficiaries, at least 60% of whom are women. For reasons of insecurity and delays in the installation of solar pumping systems, production for this campaign is underway on four (04) sites (02 in the North and 02 in the Boucle du Mouhoun) with several speculations (onions, cabbage, tomatoes, lettuce, etc.).

Seydou SAWADOGO, a young beneficiary from the northern region in the commune of Pourra, produces cabbages and onions. These days, in addition to his own production, he buys market garden produce from his co-operators to sell at markets in neighboring villages. He makes a minimum profit of 500,000 F per season. A dynamic young man who serves as a model of success in market garden production. He loves this profession and invites his comrades to invest in their production.
