About the approach

The Apprentissage de la langue française à partir des acquis de l’alphabétisation (ALFAA) method is designed for men and women over the age of 15 who have already undergone basic and complementary training and who wish to learn and master basic French. In 150 days of training, i.e. 1,500 hours divided into three levels: 1, 2 and 3, the learner acquires a level of CM2 of the classic school.

Objectives

Enable adults already literate in national languages to learn French;
Improve the cultural and educational level of neo-literates in national languages;
Make oral and written French at the Cours Moyen 2è année (CM2) level accessible to literate adults.

Prerequisites for implementing the approach

Community demand for implementation of the approach;
Implementation of a management committee;
Participation of the beneficiary community in setting up simple infrastructure to house the center.

Implementation process

Prospecting and social negotiation missions for center opening;
Literacy and non-formal education fund (FONAENF).
Establishment of a management committee;
Recruitment and training of facilitators:
Establishment of the infrastructure to house the center;
Provision of furniture, teaching materials and textbooks;
Follow-up support and advice;
Administration of training in 1500 hours divided into levels I, II and III of 500 hours per level, with content in language and communication, mathematics and technology, social sciences and production activities.

Direct beneficiaries

Neo-literates in national languages wishing to raise their level of education and culture in French.

Indirect beneficiaries

Members of the associations to which the ALFAA auditors belong;
Students whose parents have been ALPFAA auditors;
Local authorities looking for resource people to help implement local development policies.

An approach that meets the needs of neo-literate adults and reinforces their open-mindedness through the use of the official language, French, and the acquisition of mathematical and scientific skills at the end of the primary cycle, with the possibility of taking the national primary school certificate (CEP) exam;

Enables adults literate in national languages to quickly learn basic and functional French to make their daily activities more profitable and open up to the world through mastery of other languages and cultures;
