On March 07, 2024, a workshop was held in Kaya to officially launch the projects “Strengthening the community resilience of agroforestry households in the North, Boucle du Mouhoun and Centre-Nord regions of Burkina Faso” (RESICOM) and “Community resilience in the agroforestry sector in the North, Boucle du Mouhoun and Centre-Nord regions” (ResCom).
Initially implemented in the Boucle du Mouhoun and Nord regions for the period 2021-2025, the main aim of these projects is to contribute to the sustainable strengthening of the resilience of agroforestry households, including that of IDPs, affected by the security crisis and climate change. To achieve this, their interventions are focused on the triple Nexus of “humanitarian, development and peace”.
The extension to the Centre-Nord region from 2024 onwards is the result of the positive mid-term results already achieved. Ultimately, these projects aim to reach over 13,000 vulnerable households in the Centre-Nord region.
The official launch of the projects in the Centre-Nord region was presided over by the Governor of the said region, represented by the High Commissioner of Sanmatenga, Mr. Idrissa GANSORE. In his view, these two projects are perfectly aligned with the 2023-2025 agropastoral and fisheries offensive. “The strength of these projects lies in the fact that they integrate and synergize the dimensions of humanitarian aid, development and social cohesion, which suits the country’s current context,” he enthused.
On this occasion, the guests were able to see for themselves the achievements of Soumbala’s women processors, with an improved hearth and dryers provided by the ResCom project. In addition, on behalf of the RESICOM project, livestock kits comprising 2 rams, a bag of cakes and a licking stone were handed out to 150 IDPs in the commune of Kaya.

For Dr Stéphane TUINA, Deputy Director representing the Country Director of SNV/Burkina, and spokesman for the consortia, the RESICOM and ResCom projects will increase agroforestry production to ensure food and nutritional security for grassroots communities in the intervention zones, rebuild the livelihoods of resident and internally displaced populations (IDPs), create rural jobs to improve incomes for young people and women, and strengthen the social cohesion of grassroots communities.

In the words of Ms Sara SVALGAARD, 1st Secretary Representative of the Danish Ambassador to Burkina Faso, the implementation of these projects is part of the Danish-Burkina Faso Bilateral Program 2021-2025, which aims to support the Burkinabe government’s efforts to help vulnerable populations. For their part, the beneficiaries were delighted with the support provided, which will enable them to improve their livelihoods in the short and long term.
As a reminder, the RESICOM and ResCom projects are each financed to the tune of around 8.6 billion F CFA by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark in Burkina Faso, including around 02 billion for the Centre-Nord Region. The RESICOM project is implemented by the consortium Solidar Suisse Burkina and SOS SAHEL International Burkina Faso – ONG, and ResCom by the consortium SNV Burkina Faso and DRC; with the support of local partners: APIL, AVAD and the Wend-Kuuni Association of Centre-Nord.
