On May 04, 2023, the first quarterly meeting of the year was held in Koudougou for stakeholders in the “Strengthening community resilience of agroforestry households in the Boucle du Mouhoun and Nord regions” (RESICOM) project: the Consortium Solidar Suisse-SOS Sahel International Burkina Faso and its local partners, the Catholic Organization for Development and Solidarity-Dédougou (OCADES-Dédougou) and the Federation of Agricultural Professionals of Burkina-Yatenga (FEPAB/ Yatenga).
The meeting provided an opportunity to take stock of progress made in implementing the recommendations of the last quarterly meeting, present the achievements of the first quarter, assess the security situation in the intervention zones and plan activities for the second quarter of 2023. The heads of the local partners present at the meeting were urged to provide better supervision of the field workers, to ensure closer monitoring in order to achieve the expected results.
The workshop was also a learning opportunity to draw on lessons and experiences at this stage of activity implementation.
As a reminder, this meeting is part of the general coordination and monitoring of RESICOM project implementation in the various intervention zones. After 18 months of implementation, the budget execution rate is 41%.
The main and largely encouraging effects already observed in certain activities include the following:
- In just one month of activity, poor women and IDPs who are members of AVEC groups have already mobilized savings of 580,000FCFA. Of these savings, 390,000 Fcfa has been used to finance 44 microcredits;
- 237 women, i.e. 32% of the total target, including 04 IDPs, benefit from equipment and advice on income-generating activities (IGAs), and generate income through small-scale trading;
- 61% of beneficiaries of 02 rams for fattening started the 2nd cycle on their own account (selling price 60,000 to 90,000 FCA/ram);
- 1940 poor women, young people and men were able to improve their incomes thanks to HIMO activities for the development of lowland rice fields and market garden areas;
- 200 new farmers trained in the construction of “3-stone” and zaï stone cordons and 560 ha (76%) ploughed with the Delfino plough for mechanized recovery of degraded soils, etc.
At the end of the proceedings, Mr. Dieudonné R. ZAONGO, Country Representative of Solidar Suisse Burkina Faso, congratulated the participants on the results already achieved, and invited them to redouble their efforts to multiply the project’s impact on improving the living conditions of agroforestry households, including IDPs in the Boucle du Mouhoun and Nord regions, the main targets of the RESICOM project.
