Raising awareness and informing communal players about the delimitation of the Pourra grazing area. This was the main objective of the communal awareness-raising and information meeting on the grazing zone in the village of Pourra (RAMBO commune) held on June 15, 2023 at the RAMBO town hall. The meeting was attended by various stakeholders: representatives of the local deconcentrated technical services for agriculture, livestock, the environment and social action, municipal players, farmers, livestock breeders, landowners and members of the RESICOM project technical team (from FEPAB).

On this occasion, the various participants were briefed on the general provisions relating to pastoral development, the role of each player in the process and the benefits for the community. At the end of the discussions, an ad ‘hoc information and awareness-raising committee of 09 members (including 04 CVDs from the 04 target villages, 01 agriculture officer, 01 livestock officer, 01 environment officer, 01 town hall officer, 01 chairman) was set up. The committee is chaired by the president of the Rambo special delegation, Mr Abdoul Razack SAWADOGO, assisted by a secretary. The committee’s tasks include

  • Negotiate the consensual designation of grazing area boundaries;
  • Validate the results of negotiations at village and communal level;
  • Facilitate the work of marking out the grazing area.

To promote optimal, peaceful management, the Pourra grazing area involves its 03 neighboring villages (Kagalé, Koungo and Dierko).

As a reminder, this meeting is being held as part of the operationalization of Output 1.3 of the RESICOM project: “Small-scale producers are organized and have access to infrastructure facilitating production, processing and marketing activities”. As part of the reinforcement of pastoralism, 20 pastoral boreholes are to be built, 5 grazing zones and 3 transhumance corridors reinforced with beacons.

To facilitate the implementation of these infrastructures, information and awareness-raising meetings are held with resource persons in the identified localities. Baseline studies have revealed the inadequacy of facilities and infrastructure to support production in the North and Boucle du Mouhoun regions (despite their potential), thus reducing household production capacity. To remedy this situation, the RESICOM project intends to strengthen productive capital based on the needs and potential of the areas of concentration, by building infrastructures to support agro-sylvopastoral production (such as rice-growing lowlands, market-gardening perimeters, pastoral boreholes, grazing areas and transhumance corridors).
