On March 26, 2022, the first edition of the Boucle du Mouhoun regional community day was held at Place des Martyrs in the town of Dédougou. The main objective of this day is to contribute to the creation of positive interactions between different social groups, and to the consolidation of peaceful coexistence and social cohesion in the region.
Chaired by the region’s governor Mr Baho Pierre BASSINGAthe event provided an opportunity for some fifteen host and internally displaced communities from Burkina Faso and four (04) others from the West African sub-region to meet and share ideas. On this occasion, a charter on social cohesion signed by these communities was presented to the governor. From his point of view, the objective pursued is consistent with the principles and values of the transitional authorities.
The day was punctuated by a variety of activities, including tea-debates, a parade, a dance/clothing exhibition and other handicrafts, and an exhibition of culinary delights from different socio-ethnic groups.
The event is part of the “Strengthening community resilience in agroforestry households in the Boucle du Mouhoun and Nord regions” (RESICOM) project. The ultimate aim is to foster a climate of peace between the resident populations of the intervention zones in the management of shared natural resources. The project is funded by the Danish Embassy and managed by the Solidar Suisse-SOS Sahel International Burkina Faso Consortium in collaboration with local partner OCADES-Dédougou, the Catholic Organization for Development and Solidarity.
