The ” Development of agricultural entrepreneurship for producers in the village of Salogo ” project aims to improve the living conditions of Salogo’s producers in the long term.

The High Commissioner of the Ganzourgou province, Robert ZOUNGRANA, inaugurated the infrastructure built under this project on Friday, March 22, 2019 in Salogo, a locality some thirty kilometers from Zorgho, the capital of the Ganzourgou province.Executed by the Association Béog-Néeré du Ganzourgou (ABN/G), the direct beneficiaries are members of the Malgzindo cooperative in Salogo. With funding from the NGO Solidar Suisse and the Fédération Vaudoise de Coopération (FEDEVACO), the total cost of this three-year project (2018-2020) is 145,680,000 FCFA.

The project is designed to improve the living conditions of Salogo’s producers on a long-term basis. An onion storage silo with a capacity of 43.2 tonnes, a local produce processing unit, a 2-hectare market garden, a trichoderma-enriched compost production unit and a one-hectare moringa production area – these are the infrastructures that were officially inaugurated in Salogo. These infrastructures were built thanks to the financial support of Solidar Suisse and the Fédération Vaudoise de Coopération (FEDEVACO), with a physical and material contribution estimated at 3,000,000 FCFA from the Malgzindo cooperative in Salogo, the beneficiary of the project.

The project’s approach is based on agroecology, combining market garden production, the use of organic manure, the promotion of environmentally-friendly village irrigation and the processing of local produce.

“The main objective is to improve the income and food security of male and female producers by optimizing and diversifying the productivity and production of their market garden crops using appropriate, environmentally-friendly techniques, and by facilitating an efficient marketing circuit for their produce. “said Dieudonné ZAONGO, Country Representative for Solidar Suisse. According to Mr. ZAONGO, the project is based on three essential axes: market garden production, production of compost enriched with trichoderma, production/processing of moringa and local products.

The first year of the project was devoted to building the various infrastructures,” he explains, pointing out that in addition to these achievements, the members of the cooperative will benefit from various training courses in their field of activity, as well as study trips and exchanges of experience. They will then be accompanied to a microfinance institution, the Caisse Populaire, for the negotiation and signature of agreements to ensure the continuity of their activities through loans, and to professionals for purchasing contracts to facilitate the smooth sale of their produce.

This project represents a real development opportunity for the Ganzourgou province.

”  The mayor, the chief of Salogo and all the people of Ganzourgou are proud of what Solidar Suisse has achieved through ABN-G ,” says Robert ZOUNGRANA, High Commissioner of Ganzourgou province. For him, local development depends on agricultural entrepreneurship. The precariousness of jobs means that today, entrepreneurship is a lever for sustainable economic and social development for the population.

“This project represents a real development opportunity for the province, as it abounds in market-growing potential, but the availability of developed areas, infrastructure, processing and marketing is a major issue”, explains the High Commissioner. says the High Commissioner. He goes on to say that preserving onions will add value and certainly ensure a better income for producers. Similarly, on-site processing of local products, the first of its kind in the commune, will help to improve the eating habits and nutritional health of producers and the entire population, concludes the High Commissioner of the Ganzourgou province.

Beneficiaries’ representative Saidou Kaboré, president of the Malgzindo cooperative in Salogo, also hails the initiative. This project has changed our lives. With the training we received in onion, moringa and enriched compost production, we are now producing according to standards, enabling us to increase our income and look after our families,” he confides. “he confides.
