One of the components of the “Strengthening local democracy and citizen participation in the Central Plateau region” program, which is an initiative led since January 2017 by Laboratoire Citoyennetés with financial support from the NGO Solidar Suisse, is to create within the local authorities in the program’s intervention zone the political and technical conditions conducive to the production of a quality public service and transparent management of public assets.
To make this possible, capacity-building actions are implemented. These include helping local elected representatives to design and implement communication policies aimed at citizens and users of public services.
8 technical support workshops for the production of communal newsletters were held for some 40 people in the eight communes covered by the program. These workshops enabled participants to master: the key concepts involved in running a communal newsletter, tools for collecting and processing information, techniques for running a communal newsletter and journalistic-style writing techniques.
Each commune designs and distributes its own newsletter.
