Laboratoire Citoyennetés in partnership with Solidar Suisse is implementing the “Support for the strengthening of local democracy and citizen participation in the Central Plateau” Program for a 4-year period started in 2017.
The main objective of the program is to contribute to improving the democratic culture and citizen participation of local elected officials, CSOs and the populations of the Central Plateau for sustainable local development.
To achieve this objective, a strong local civil society must emerge, capable of raising questions and engaging in political dialogue, defending local governance issues and supporting local authorities in their efforts to promote consultation and accountability.
This involves supporting associations working in the field of local governance and enabling them to get to know each other better, work together and network. With this in mind, the program has identified and selected some forty associations sharing the same objectives, representing some 4,000 members, to be supported in their networking in the eight communes covered by the program. Each network is made up of 4 associations, including one youth association, one women’s association and two mixed associations, with the exception of the Zorgho and Boussé networks, each made up of eight associations:
- Cadre d’Initiative Citoyenne de Loumbila (CICL),
- The Réseau Action Communale pour la Gouvernance Locale (ACGL) in Ziniaré,
- The Comité de Veille Citoyenne (CVC) of Boussé,
- The Comité d’Actions Citoyennes (CAC) in Zorgho,
- The Coalition of CSOs for the Promotion of Democracy (COPDM) of Méguet
A charter has been drawn up to govern the operation of the networks. Their main mission is to promote citizen participation and good local governance through formal appeals to ensure that people’s needs are taken into account, in order to improve the provision of basic social services at local level.
