On April 19, 2023, a meeting was held in Ziniaré to take stock of awareness-raising activities on the sexual and reproductive health of adolescents and young people (SRAJ) planned as part of the “Promotion de l’accès des filles à un Système Educatif et de Formation Professionnelle de qualité (PROMESSE-FP)” project. Chaired by the Health and Family Department of the Ministry of Health, the meeting also served as a framework for drawing up a roadmap of activities to be implemented in the health districts before the end of the transition period (scheduled for June 2024).

By raising awareness and training stakeholders in SRAJ, the PROMESSE-FP project aims to reduce the number of school dropouts due to pregnancy by 30% by 2024. To achieve this, the project intends to strengthen the knowledge and capacities of 28,000 girls and 42,000 boys from 200 post-primary and secondary schools, and 15,625 beneficiaries of vocational training, to better manage their sexual and reproductive health.

To date, school life facilitators trained in SRAJ have reached 10,000 pupils in 200 schools. In these schools, sub-clubs made up of 40 girls and 10 boys have been set up to discuss and support pupils on sexual health issues. In addition, 09 districts were contacted to reach 160 health facilities, i.e. 2 agents per center, using non-stigmatizing approaches to better promote the health of young people and break taboos between parents and daughters/ sons. In all, more than 20,000 young people have already been reached.
