On April 12, 2023, a delegation from the Solidar Suisse Burkina Faso team led by Country Representative Mr. Dieudonné R. ZAONGO visited the vocational education and training center (CEFP) built à Kaya as part of the project project “Promoting access for girls and women à un Système Educatif et de Formation Professionnelle de qualité (PROMESSE-FP)” project.

As a reminder, the PROMESSE-FP project, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Vocational Training, plans to open 10 centers in the 04 regions where the project is being implemented (North, Centre-North, East and Sahel).

Each of the 10 centers will host three (03) cohorts of 40 girls for the duration of the project. Over a period of 09 months, these girls, aged 16 to 19 and outside the education system (35% of whom are internally displaced), will receive basic education in the national language and training in trades. The trades identified are hairdressing, saponification, beading and sheep fattening. They will also receive training modules in sexual and reproductive health (SRH), life skills, entrepreneurship and the use of ICTs to promote business activities, so that by the end of their apprenticeship, they will have developed both professional and social skills that will facilitate their integration and socio-professional development.

At the end of their training, beneficiaries will be provided with installation kits to get their businesses up and running.

The total cost of building the center is 25 million FCFA, and includes a fully-equipped classroom, a store, a shed for extra-classroom practical work, toilets, etc.). This model center is being built in the 04 regions where the project is being implemented (East, North, North Central, Sahel). The Centre Nord region has three centers, two (2) in Kaya and one (1) in Boulsa. In this region, the project is managed by local partners Ocades Caritas/Kaya and APIJCN.

Through these centers, the Solidar Suisse Burkina Faso – Educo Burkina Faso – Aflatoun International Consortium aims to promote the socio-professional integration of girls and young women in these regions by strengthening their skills in professional trades. The project is financed by the Dutch Embassy in Burkina Faso.
